NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Emergency services has been monitoring the weather all day. All of their stations are prepared for the worst.
Emergency management says they are not expecting to have “all hands on deck.” If anything, it will just be a limited number of people working, which includes the emergency management staff and the 911 staff. They said their main worry is for Thursday morning during bulk of the storm. Shelters are not opened but that could change.
“Really, the need through the Red Cross and those other volunteer agencies. They generally- and in tropical storms and in winter storms, they generally handle the small scale shelter operations. If it gets to be too much for them to handle then that’s when we step in and open up county shelters,” Steven Still, emergency management director, said.
Emergency management says it will continue to monitor the situation and keep communicating with the national weather service.
